The Dream
Most of us carry through our lives a “dream” that never materializes.
We create a non-reality that becomes a stumbling block for accomplishing what God created us to do. Our grandiose plans and ideas often come to nothing more than longing. That longing prevents us from embracing the hard reality of daily life.
False dreams can keep us from accepting the daily discipline of getting a real job and going to work every day probably doing something we don’t want to do.
Giving up the “dream” and excuses which keep us from accepting our responsibilities is an excruciating moment of truth.
We long for what we don’t have rather than live in joy in our circumstances. The human heart is prone to wander and seek satisfaction through things that God never intended for us.
Dreaming and hoping propels us to work hard. To do our best. To seek God for His dreams and purposes for our life.
But we can also build a false reality around things God never intended.
The Dying
My latest excursion to the beach resulted in a “death of a dream.”
For as long as I can remember I have wanted a small place at the beach. The ocean rejuvenates me and gives me life. I have always associated retirement with frequent trips to the beach–staying in my own little piece of paradise. This last trip was my time to realize the dream. We thought we had found the right little beach community.
I have always associated retirement with frequent trips to the beach–staying in my own little piece of paradise. Now that I am semi-retired this last trip was my time to realize my dream. My husband and I thought we had found the right little beach community on the Gulf. with the next step being to find the right place.
The next step was to find the right place. That little piece of paradise I’d dreamed of for years.
I had prayed “through” this possibility and arrived ready to make a decision on a property. But that did not happen.
My hopes and dreams were shattered.
Within 24 hours of arriving in the selected town, many things happened that confirmed this beach community was not the place for us.
As a result, seriously looking at property and buying a home was not an option.
God shut the door.
He said “no.”
Sometimes when God says “no” it is a course correction.
Sometimes “no” is protection.
Sometimes “no” means not now–not here.
Sometimes “no” means God has a better plan altogether.
Has God said no to your dream? How have you responded?
