Since COVID-19 everything has changed. One of the greatest changes has been people have been prohibited from going to church. It has been interesting how certain governors have allowed lots of activity and certain stores open and services offered during the pandemic, but not church.
Do you question this? Do you have a problem with churches being closed or threatened if they open?
It is time for people to get out of the house and go back to church!
The spiritual discipline of going to church is difficult under the best of circumstances. Given a great excuse like COVID makes it easy to stay home and watch TV church. God told His Church to forsake not the assembly– not make the best out of Zoom or TV church. If your church is not open, then you have a legitimate reason.
But if your church is open, you don’t have any excuse. If you are old and sick and have health issues, then you have a valid reason to stay home.
But most of us are not sick, old (that’s relative), and in poor health. We are not going because it is not important, and we have gotten used to lying around on Sunday morning or doing our favorite pastime.
For Christians to not be in church is an excuse. If there was one thing I learned from my godly mother, it was “forsake not the assembly of the saints” regardless of the situation.
If you are in between churches, then find one. I have struggled the past several years on where I was going to church, but I didn’t use that as an excuse to not go. Every Sunday I went somewhere. Was it fun? NO. I hated it, because looking for a church that meets your needs is hard work. I found “cowboy church” which is fine if you are a cowboy and like to dress like a cowboy, but not fine if you are not. I wasn’t. I found churches with music so loud I developed a headache. The worship might have been great, but SO LOUD it made me crazy, and I wanted to run out the back door. I found great pastors, but an awful worship experience, OR great worship experience, but the pastor’s message was not effective.
A lot of cities and states have opened the doors of churches, so there is no excuse to not attend your church. Are you going to hide out at home forever and be afraid? Many of us are out and about “doing life” and running errands, going to restaurants, and whatever else we want to do, so there is no excuse to not attend church.
Other states have governors that want everything shut down. I wonder why?? Some pastors in these states have said “enough,” and they are opening the doors anyway. A pastor in our area has a school/academy in his large church, and he made the decision the children are going back to school as “normal.” No masks or social distancing, and teachers are going to teach as they always have. Bravo to that pastor.
There comes a time to trust God and move on with your life.
