This theme is stuck inside of me! For some reason, I continue to revisit this issue. Either I need to keep telling myself this truth, or maybe many of you need to be reminded that “just because you can, doesn’t mean you should.”
I have always been blessed with a lot of energy and motivation, but my body can no longer keep up with all of the demands of that energy and motivation. I strained my foot pushing myself to walk greater and greater distances for exercise. Sometimes I do really stupid things and suffer some serious consequences. The last stupid thing I did was go for a walk I should not have attempted due to my already strained foot. I took the dog for a walk, and I limped back home.
Wisdom said stay inside and forget my daily walk. In my disobedience, I decided to go on a three-mile walk anyway, so I headed out on the neighborhood trail. About a half mile out, I was almost lame. I could barely drag myself home.
Due to my foolishness, I ended up in a boot and on a crutch, and I learned the lesson again.
Once again, “Just Because We Can Doesn’t Mean We Should.”
God is always speaking to us, if we will listen. Most of the time we are so self-absorbed or preoccupied we miss even His most evident messages.
