Yesterday, I posted Heartbreak for America, and I received more email, comments, and Facebook posts than anything I have ever written. Something I wrote struck a nerve for many who read it.
I heard from people who are experiencing uncommon depression, hopelessness, and anxiety, including panic attacks.
Most of us are confused and afraid over what is coming, and we are asking ourselves, “Will America ever pull of this?”
We have no paradigm for this COVID-19 experience. We want to get up and move on with our lives, but how can we take lightly this experience when people continue to die. We are asking ourselves serious questions. Some of those are:
Why wasn’t this virus contained at the source? What will be the fallout between and among nations? Did the scientists get this right? Are governors unfairly and unwisely keeping people from going back to work? Are some trying to use this situation for political gain? Most of these questions make us angry. Prolonged anger leads to depression and hopelessness.
One of the worst things about the predicament in which we find ourselves, is that we have little to no control over anything. To be honest, things are a mess, and we are trying to sort out all of these issues while we look and act perfectly normal!! This is part of our problem–we are really not talking about our feelings in this situation.
When we put on the masks to go out in public, we feel like idiots, BUT it is absolutely necessary to be safe and wise. We don’t like anything about this situation, so we need to stop pretending everything is lovely! It’s not lovely. This pretense makes our emotional turmoil worse.
Most of us are not prone to depression and anxiety, so we don’t recognize the feelings we are having. Anxiety can be so pervasive and scary that you don’t know what grabbed hold of you until you have nearly gone “over the edge.” Several years ago, I had a personal encounter with anxiety, and it was one of the hardest things I ever dealt with.
If you are having trouble breathing, heart palpitations, perspiring when you are not hot, dizzy, tingling and/or numbness in your hands and feet, and you have waves of fear that come over you–you may be having an encounter with anxiety. If your symptoms become pronounced or they worsen, CALL YOUR DOCTOR. Do not be embarrassed to ask for help.
We are doing life, running errands, and trying to get back to normal, but everyone is asking questions like, ” Will my child/children be able to safely return to school, and to college? Will our economy pull out of this? Will 35,000,000 people be able to return to work? Am I safe to return to work? What may happen to my parents?” And the list goes on.
Remember God knew all about COVID-19 from the beginning, and He knew it was going to show up in our life time.
Two words I heard from the beginning of isolation were “divine alignment.” I think God has made divine alignment all over the world, in every nation, and certainly in America.
We desperately need divine alignment!
What does that look like going forward? None of us know, but our responsibility is to take “all of this” seriously, and pray and ask God to clean up our nation and bring revival and healing.
Because of the overwhelming response I had to the first post titled Heartbreak for America, if you have struggles or emotional issues you are trying to cope with related to COVID-19, please let me know and I will continue to try to address your concerns. If you are feeling a certain way, you can bet there are thousands of people who feel the same way.
Blessings my friends as we pursue our never changing God and know that He has this! He will carry us through!
