For most of us, “living in the now” is really tough because we are mired up on “memory lane” or stuck in quick sand worrying about our future. Therefore, we miss the joy of today.
Learning to live one day at a time, to the fullness, is a fine art. In the now, we can find joy, laughter, and a sense of belonging. We can become acutely aware of all the wonders around us.
The budding trees and beauty of flowers during spring time–the resonating sound of birds singing before the breaking of dawn. The wonder and awe of sunrise with it’s shades of pink and yellow and the glory of clouds as they float across the azure sky. The sound of your loved one’s voice on the phone and the joy of mutual love and relationship.
The joy of running errands and meeting so many nice people along the way. People who need a kind and encouraging word and a smile. Folks who need you to connect with them even for a brief moment.
When we live in the now, we embrace every moment and glean the power of being fully alive. We engage with God in new ways and are open to connect with others in meaningful ways.
Living in the now allows you space and time to actually “stop and smell the roses”. When was the last time you stopped to smell flowers or pick a rose, smell honeysuckle, magnolias, the soil and earth, fallen leaves, or the fragrance of the rain?
Practice living one day at a time in the now and experience the breath of God.
