Lately the words “if you want me to be closer to you, get closer to me” have resonated in my mind and spirit.
Day and night I heard these words floating over my consciousness.
Of late the Holy Spirit has been speaking to me through secular songs. This morning as I was making coffee the words “get closer to me” came strongly again and stopped me in my tracks. I sat down, pulled out my iPhone and typed in “Get Closer” in YouTube.
The Seals and Crofts song “Get Closer” of 1976 popped up. As usual when the Lord starts speaking to me through a secular song, I play it and listen until I feel I grasp the message being conveyed.
This morning as I pressed in listening to the heart cry of the Father, I saw and heard in the Spirit Him singing over His prodigal children to come home and “get closer to Me.”
As I was listening, I heard and saw almost like in a vision Luke 15:11-32 open up with the wayward prodigal son returning to his father’s house.
In verse 20 “the father sees his son while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son.”
As I saw the old father running to his son, I wept as the Lord reminded me, He is watching and waiting in the fields for His sons and daughters to return.
As I am writing this, I am overwhelmed with God’s heart and love for His children. His longing for all of us to “get closer to Him” so He can get closer to us.
There is a line in the song that says, “there’s a line I can’t cross over. It’s no good for me and it’s no good for you.” God stands at the door and knocks, but you must open the door and invite Him in. He will not step beyond the boundary line you set.
You must open the door to the threshold of your heart and say to Jesus “get closer to me.” Everything in life changes the day you return to your Father’s house.
Life apart from God is hay and stubble.
At the end of the day, all the false religions and our false gods give us nothing but emptiness and void.
God is extending His hand, His heart, and His scepter saying “get closer to Me.” He is in the field watching and waiting for you to return. When He sees you returning from far away, He will run to you.
Nothing compares to the love of the Father.
Even those of us who walk with the Lord “in the quiet (cool) of the day,” may be distracted by so many things. God is asking us to turn from our futility and run back into the Father’s house.
Only there will we find protection and peace.
