As a psychologist, I have seen a broad spectrum of life and gained insight into the complexity of life. Adoption certainly falls into that category. I have worked with many adopted people who grew up in great families and took advantage of God’s many gifts to them.
I have also known others who lived out the destructive gene pool from which they came.
I know there are millions of children around the world who need to be adopted, and I have always admired couples who adopt.
As with everything, there are blessings and curses that come with our decisions.
Some of the nicest people I know were adopted by wonderful families, and they always loved their families.
But, I also know some who were adopted who hated their parents, especially their mothers.
The hatred for their mother stems from the abandonment of the birth mother giving them up for adoption.
In many of these situations, the anger at the adoptive parents eventually ends up in NO relationship. Parents can put up with their abuse, lying, stealing, and irresponsibility for decades only to come to the end of their road.
The purpose of this writing is not to discourage adoption, but to address the truth and hard facts that lie within the decision.
Our DNA is a fact of life, and with that comes generational curses that have been passed down for hundreds of years.
When counseling adoptive parents, they would say, “I can’t understand why my child returned to the cesspool they were born in and gave up all the good things they had.”
The answer is their DNA and generational curses of which adoptive parents have no knowledge.
