A familiar summer scene in Tennessee is freshly mown hay bales dotting the countryside. I absolutely love bright yellow hay bales laying in disarray across a field. It speaks of the summer season, harvest, and preparation for winter. The scene is so powerful for me, that I actually want to get out of the car, set up an easel, and paint the beauty of what my eyes behold.
The above painting is titled “Golden Days of Summer” and portrays the vibrancy of summer color seen through my eyes. The golds, yellows, oranges, and shades of green with a backdrop of dark green shadows deep in the trees speaks life to me. My favorite summer sky is cerulean blue with pink and sometimes with pale yellow in the early morning hours. (painting is for sale)
A writer has to “find her voice,” which hasn’t been very heard for me. But finding my voice as an artist has been like an “out-of-body experience.” I just cannot grab hold of what that means. But if I show up long enough at the easel, I will find my voice and the deeper joy of the wonderful world of color.
In the past weeks, I have written about showing up for your life and your gifts. If you don’t exercise the gifts you have, they wither up and die. If you exercise and cultivate (I love that word) your gifts and talents, they start to take on a life of their own. It is as if God is pulling out of you His very best.
Show up for your gifts.
He has gifted all of us in amazing ways to share with each other. The friend who helps me with my writings is an amazing baker, and she creates the yummiest desserts I have ever put in my mouth. What a loss to all of us who love her if she did not use and love her gift. (She has many!)
Find your gifts, dust them off, and get them out and take a new look at something that was special to God.
He wants so much for your life. Join Him in the discovery and amazement of your wonderful life.
