As I sit with the Lord and ponder what He is saying to me and the nation, the only word that comes is: REPENT!
America stands at a pivotal moment in history with an opportunity to return to God in sincere repentance from our sinful ways. If America continues to walk in rebellion and wickedness, she will be lost forever. God is tired of our lukewarm religion and “playing church.” Our only hope is II Chronicles 7:14:
Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land.
This scripture says “turn from our wicked ways.” this doesn’t mean acknowledge sin as a problem, but TURN from it–go in a different direction. Those of us who have walked with the Lord and read the Bible are familiar with this scripture. The problem is it hasn’t changed much in many of our lives. I confess my sin of really not knowing how to repent. I can’t remember ever hearing a sermon on repentance. Maybe some casual teaching, but I have never heard anything of any substance taught on repentance.
But as a Christian, I have a responsibility before God to figure it out.
The American Church is the Laodicean Church mentioned in Revelation 3:15-17; 19.
I know all things you do, that you are neither hot nor cold. I wish you were one or the other! But since you are lukewarm water, neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth! You say, “I am rich. I have everything I want. I don’t need a thing!” And you don’t realize that you are wretched and miserable and poor and blind and naked. I correct and discipline everyone I love. So be diligent and turn from your indifference.
America as a people and the Church is “wretched and miserable and poor and blind and naked.” The problem is we are so indifferent, we don’t even recognize our pitiful condition. God completely and utterly destroyed all of Israel and Jerusalem. In 605 BC, the Babylonian empire took it’s first group of exiles to Babylon from Israel, and in 587 BC destroyed Jerusalem, the magnificent temple, and burnt it to the ground and removed the massive wall around the city. God had been calling Israel to repentance for centuries by the prophets, but in their stubborn rebellion, they refused to listen.
America finds herself in the same place that ancient Israel and Judah found themselves before they were utterly destroyed between 605 and 587 BC.
We are a social church, traditions of men church, the half-asleep church, the playing games with God church. Not all churches and certainly not all Christians fall into these categories, but I dare say the majority of denominational churches fit into one or more of these categories. Many pastors and denominational governance do not believe the scripture to be the inerrant Word of God. For many denominations, anything goes. Whatever is culturally, socially, and politically correct is the bible to which many in America bow their knee.
If we don’t wake up now, we may never have that opportunity again. It is time to return to God with our whole heart, soul, and mind, and seek God while He can be found.
If you have never totally given your life to the Lord, now may be the time. If you are lukewarm and not serious about the things of God, it may be time to repent and ask God to overtake your life and transform you into a child of God.
If you have not been baptized in the Holy Spirit, ask and seek until you have a powerful infilling and encounter with the Holy Spirit.
We all need to repent and turn from our wicked ways. Only God can save us and our beloved America.
